Neighbourhood

Don Area Co-op is one of the older co-ops in the city.

Cabbagetown is a neighbourhood of beautiful old Victorian homes. It is a diverse and vibrant community with many attractions, making it a truly unique place in which to live. The co-op is surrounded by a wealth of recreational activities and services that have a broad range appeal to all ages and interests.

For nature lovers, Riverdale Farm offers year-round exclusive access to sheep, goats, cows, horses, pigs and much more – a great opportunity to get outside and experience animals close up. The Farm offers classes for adults, like pottery or knitting lessons. Every Tuesday during spring and summer months, Riverdale Farm hosts an Organic Farmers Market, where fresh vegetables, fruits and wholesome baked bread bring the hidden country boy or girl out in everyone.

Cycling, running, or even walking enthusiasts use the Don recreational trail, just minutes away. Take the trail for a nice long walk and enjoy the scenery (especially during spring and fall). For those adamant cyclists, Jet Fuel is the place to hang out and get refreshed. For those serious runners, Riverdale Park has an outdoor track, a wonderful workout experience. If swimming gets you going, there’s the Riverdale Park pool just around the corner along Broadview.

The annual Cabbagetown Festival offers the opportunity to get out and dance in the streets while enjoying some good food, and to participate in the community-wide garage sale. If you are geared to contemplation, literature or just are appreciative of silence, the Toronto Public Library is close by at Parliament and Gerrard.

Cabbagetown is home to two dance theatres. Come down and visit the Canadian Children’s Dance Theatre (CCDT) and the Toronto Dance Theatre. If your child wants to become a dancer, this is the place to go. Speaking of children, Don Area Co-op sponsors a team in the Cabbagetown Youth Centre Summer Soccer League. The neighbourhood has a No Frills grocery store, CIBC Bank, TD Bank, Shoppers Drug Mart, Home Hardware and much, much more. There is a laundry and dry cleaner just across the street on Carlton. There are many local pubs and restaurants to choose from.
